Fr. Brophy to present 鈥淭homas Aquinas: What is Truth in the Modern World鈥

91影视 will host its annual St. Thomas Aquinas Lecture on Thursday, Jan. 25 as theologian and scholar Fr. Justin Brophy, OP, Ph.D. presents 鈥淭homas Aquinas: What is Truth in the Modern World.鈥 The free lecture will take place at 11 a.m. in the Matesich Theatre, located inside Erskine Hall on 91影视鈥檚 main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road, Columbus, 43219.

The lecture is presented annually in honor of the Dominican Feast Day of St. Thomas Aquinas, which occurs on Jan. 28. A brilliant theologian and philosopher, St. Thomas Aquinas is the patron saint of universities and scholars.

Fr. Brophy currently serves as an assistant professor of political science at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island. His teaching and research interests include ancient and contemporary political theory, philosophical conceptions of the human psyche, the human psyche and modern society, Plato, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Freud, and philosophy of psychoanalysis. His current projects are focused around the political significance of Plato鈥檚 鈥淪ymposium鈥 and its reception by late modern thinkers, especially Freud, Nietzsche, and Kierkegaard.

Fr. Brophy was ordained a priest as a member of the Dominican Order of Preachers in 2012. He earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in Philosophy, master鈥檚 degree in political science, and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Notre Dame. In addition, he earned a Baccalaureate of Sacred Theology, Master of Divinity, and Licentiate of Sacred Theology from Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.

A frequent presenter at conferences and widely published in peer-reviewed publications, Fr. Brophy has taught courses in theology, political science and philosophy at Providence College and the University of Notre Dame. He is a member of the American Political Science Association, International Plato Society, and Heterodox Academy.
